CCA facilities accredited by ACA

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eight Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) facilities - including two in Georgia - have been accredited or re-accredited by auditors with the American Correctional Association (ACA). The average score exceeds 99 percent with two facilities receiving a 100 percent. The accreditations were awarded at ACA's summer conference held recently in Denver.

CCA operates the North Georgia Detention Center in Gainesville. Spokesman Mike Machak said it was last reaccredited by ACA examiners in 2010, and will come up for reaccreditation in 2013. The two CCA facilities in Georgia which are on the latest list are in Alamo and Nicholls.

"ACA standards are the road-map to excellence in every aspect of what CCA strives for," said Jan Fuson, CCA consultant for Quality Assurance. "Upholding the highest standards possible ensures CCA is doing its very best to protect communities, the individuals in our care and each of our 17,000 dedicated employees."

Accreditation by the ACA occurs every three years and is the industry 'gold standard.' Currently, more than 93 percent of CCA’s operating facilities are ACA-accredited, among the highest rates of similarly sized corrections systems.

“Every aspect of the correctional facility operations and practices is thoroughly measured," said Don Murray, CCA managing director for Quality Assurance. "Accreditation is an intense top-to-bottom on-site audit and review of everything, from security to training... inmate rehabilitation to healthcare services."

The following facilities were successfully re-accredited with the exception of Nevada Southern Detention Center, one of CCA's newer facilities, which received accreditation for the first time.

Eloy Detention Center – Eloy, AZ
Kit Carson Correctional Center – Burlington, CO
Nevada Southern Detention Center – Pahrump, NV
New Mexico Women's Correctional – Grants, NM
Wheeler Correctional Facility – Alamo, GA
Winn Correctional Center – Winnfield, LA
