Golf notebook: Ralston in second place in Fla; Area golfers compete in Brunswick
OCALA, Fla. -- Gainesville's Spencer Ralston shot his way into contention on Tuesday in an American Junior Golf Tour tournament in Ocala, Fla.
Ralston, a rising freshman at Gainesville High, tied for third after the first day of play, carding a 1-under-par 71.
Ralston trails Daniel Whelan and Mason Greenberg, who tied for first, each scoring a 2-under.
Play continues on Wednesday.
-- AREA YOUTHS EXCEL IN BRUNSWICK: Five different Gainesville area golfers competed and placed at the Brunswick Junior Classic on Tuesday.
The tournament, part of the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour, included Gainesville High students Madeline Harr, Meg Callahan, Lawson King and Jackson Bishop, while Lakeview Academy's John Jacobs also competed.
King put up the best finish amongst area golfers, finishing tied for second in the boys 16-19-year-old division with a two-day total of 146, including a one-under 71 on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bishop fired an even-par 72 on Tuesday to card a two-day 147 and take fourth.
Playing in the boys 14-15 division, Jacobs shot a two-day 160 to take seventh place.
In the girls 15-19 division Harr took sixth with a 156, while Callahan was right behind in seventh with a 158.
