The cast of ‘A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline’ will bring back memories of the fabled singer during a two-week series of shows at the Habersham Community Theatre in Clarkesville.
CLARKESVILLE - Habersham Community Theatre presents “A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline” by Dean Regan on July 26–29 and Aug. 2–5 in Clarkesville. The show features more than 20 songs made famous by Patsy Cline during her all too brief career.
Courtney Scofield as Patsy performs “Crazy,” Walkin’ After Midnight,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee.” She is backed by a “Jordaniares” style quartet of Jack Molnar, David Shalikashvili, Sam Schultz, and Van Wunderlich. Directed by Bob Smith, the production features a live band with Sharlene Kaye, keyboard; Steve Welsch and Marie Dunkle, fiddle; Billy Busic, guitar; Jack Taylor, bass; and Susan Johnson on drums. The show begins in at the radio station in Winchester, Va., where Patsy grew up. Through vignettes by “Little Big Man,” WINC’s announcer, played by Michael Fisher, we follow her career and rise to stardom from home to the Grand Ol’ Opry, Las Vegas, and Carnegie Hall. Performances are at 7:30 p.m., July 26, 27, 28 and Aug. 2, 3, 4. The July 29 and Aug. 5 matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $11 for full-time students. Reservations may be made at 706-839-1315 or you may purchase tickets online at www.habershamtheater.org. At age 30, Cline died at the height of her career in a private plane crash and is remembered today as one of the most influential, successful and acclaimed female vocalists of the 20th century. One of the all-time legends of country music, Cline’s enduring musical legacy is witnessed by the fact that she is the number one juke-box play in the world. Her “Greatest Hits” album has sold over 9 million copies and has been in first place for over 200 weeks of her 700 weeks on Billboard's “Top Country Catalog Albums.” On March 1, 1995, Patsy was memorialized with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and on August 3rd, 1999, she was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
