CUMMING - A former Forsyth County Sheriff's deputy says he lost his job because he posted on Facebook that he'd be supporting the current sheriff's opponent.
"I decided that I was going to throw my support behind sheriff's candidate Duane Piper," Rodney Pirkle told Channel 2 News.
Pirkle said that he was fired 15 hours after posting that announcement, and he said he was not given a clear reason for his dismissal.
"Within 15 hours of me posting that, I had a captain, human resources and two internal affairs investigators in my house, releasing me from my duties," he said.
The sheriff's office issued a statement saying Pirkle's posting was not the reason he was fired and that he was a probationary employee who was let go due to performance issues.
