CUMMING - A candidate for the Forsyth County Commission says she's working to correct what she calls an honest mistake, after a complaint was filed against her.

Julie Nurnberg filed the complaint Thursday against Cindy Jones Mills, alleging Mills didn't disclose that she is an officer, founder and incorporator of the Forsyth County Parks Foundation on her personal financial disclosure statement.

"I honestly didn't realize that we had been incorporated... it's a new organization," Mills said. "I am in the process of correcting and amending my disclosure."

Nurnberg's complaint state that Mills' failure to disclose that fact is a violation of the Georgia Government Transparency and Finance Act.

Mills said the omission was an oversight.

"It's a good, good organization, and I don't want a negative light to be put on it," Mills said. "It's just politics."

Mills is running against Bill Mulrooney for the District 4 commission seat.
