CORNELIA – A Buford man was taken by ambulance after the dump truck he was driving overturned near Cornelia Tuesday morning.

Habersham County Sheriff’s Office officials said 29-year-old Stephen Jeffery Patterson was driving a 1998 Ford heavy-duty truck that overturned and spilled a load of dirt in the intersection of Old Cleveland Road at Pea Ridge Road at 9:57 a.m.

Deputies said Patterson reported he attempted to apply the brakes on the truck, but they failed.

Signs on the truck stated Sullivan Construction of Homer, but deputies on the scene said the truck belong to another of Sullivan's companies, Tony's Water Service.

The intersection was blocked for more than an hour while the wreck was cleared.

Patterson was taken to Habersham Medical Center with complaint of injuries.

Charges are pending.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety Motor Carrier Compliance Division was called and will be inspecting the truck.
