ATLANTA - A former Fulton County deputy sheriff has been sentenced to serve 41 months in federal prison for attempted possession with intent to distribute cocaine and to accepting bribes of more than $2,000.

U.S. District Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said 36-year-old former deputy Marvin Trevino Dingle of Lithonia had previously pleaded guilty to charges that he twice accepted bribes from undercover agents to deliver a substance he believed to be cocaine inside the Fulton County Jail.

Yates said the former deputy is going to jail because he "decided to profit from the illegal drug trade."

Dingle was also sentenced to serve two years on probation when he completes his prison sentence.
