GAINESVILLE - Authorities have released the name of the man who died after being critically injured in a fire Tuesday at a Gainesville apartment complex.

Hall County Deputy Coroner John Wayne Abernathy identified the victim as 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Stringer.

Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada said firefighters discovered Stringer unconscious inside his unit at Linwood Apartments and transported him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he later died.

"Upon arrival the firefighters discovered one subject was in the apartment unconscious," Canada said. "That subject was removed."

Canada said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Canada said another patient was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

"The fire was contained to that apartment... there was smoke in a couple of the other apartments that were adjacent," he said.

He said all of the apartments at the complex were evacuated as a result.
