GHS students get full scholarships to FAMU

GAINESVILLE - Two Gainesville High School seniors have received full scholarships, each worth more than $100,000, to Florida A&M University.

The scholarships were announced Tuesday at a news conference at the school hosted by Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell and featuring FAMU President James Ammons.

The recepients are Crystal Lipscomb and Ashliegh Colbert, members of Generation Inspiration, a youth leadership and development program founded by Bell in 2004.

"It's not everyday a university official comes to town to recruit scholars not athletes," Bell commented. "I'm proud of our students in Generation Inspiration. FAMU would be lucky to have them. The best and brightest In America come from communities like ours."

Each scholarship is for four years and includes tuition and room-and-board and is valued at $103,000.

"All of Gainesville should be proud of the students of Generation Inspiration," Bell added. "They're outstanding young leaders whose achievements have caught the attention of the best colleges from around the country. I'm excited about the work they're doing and confident that Hall County will continue to produce some of the most sought-after young leaders in America.”
