BRISTOL, Conn. -- The Atlanta Dream selected an ineligible player in the third round of the WNBA draft Monday when they chose Isabelle Yacoubou.
The 6-foot-4 French national player wasn't eligible to be drafted because she's too old. League rules stipulate that international players can only be drafted in the year in which they turn 20. Yacoubou turns 26 on Saturday.
Atlanta still could try and sign her as a free agent.
The Atlanta Dream also selected Connecticut guard Tiffany Hayes with their top pick in the WNBA draft.
The Dream didn't have a first-round pick Monday. Hayes was selected in the second with the No. 14 overall choice.
The 5-foot-10 guard helped UConn win two national titles and reach the Final Four all four years of her college career. She averaged 14.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals during her senior year and says she looks forward being a "complementary player" on a team that has reached the WNBA Final two years in a row.
