Eagles return to practice fields on Monday
STATESBORO -- After a day off on Sunday, the Georgia Southern Football team returned to the practice fields for their fourth practice of the spring. The Eagles donned full pads for the second time in three days.
The 22-period practice opened with work on the punt team, where Luke Cherry (Jacksonville, Fla.) began the process of replacing All-American punter Charlie Edwards. Georgia Southern also spent time on special teams working on the return game. The practice concluded with two periods of team offense versus defense, where the Eagles ran as a full unit and put to work what they had learned in the meeting rooms and individual position work.
One unit that should stand out in the early going is the linebacking core. Georgia Southern returns all three starters at linebacker from a year ago, but they are being led by a new coach in Kevin Corless. Josh Rowe (Opelika, Ala.) led the group last year with 75 total tackles at middle linebacker. A number of guys received starts at both the bandit and will position are Kyle Oehlbeck (Gainesville), Darius Eubanks (Thomson) and Carlos Cave (Macon). The Eagles also added junior college transfer Tevin Thomas (Meadville, Miss.) to the mix at outside linebacker.
Spring practice continues this week with sessions on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. A pro day for the graduating seniors will take place on Tuesday morning. The annual Blue White spring game is set for 1 p.m. on April 14th at Paulson Stadium and will be proceeded by the 6th Annual Little Eagles Camp at 10 a.m. The annual EFAA Reverse Raffle and Auction will also take place at 6 p.m. in Bishop Field House.
