Lynn Baker joins NGTC’s Nursing Faculty
CLARKESVILLE-Practical nursing students at North Georgia Technical College are already deeply engaged with their new instructor, Lynn Baker, who joined the faculty at the beginning of Fall Semester. “I want to share the knowledge from my head to the students’ heads,” said Ms. Baker. “I want them to use that knowledge with compassion for their patients.”
Lynn has had her own fair share of the educational experience. She graduated from the LPN program at Carl Sandburg College in Illinois, then went on to obtain her Associate Degree in Nursing from Edison State College and her Bachelor Degree in Nursing from Ohio Northern University. She obtained her national certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and also holds Trauma Nursing Core Certification (TNCC), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) credentials.
Baker began teaching practical nursing in Ohio at the Apollo Career Center and Edison State College while holding down full time positions in the critical care units of the local hospitals. “I like to keep busy,” she grinned.
Upon moving to Mississippi for husband Chris’s job, Lynn moved into administration and was the nurse manager of a cardiac cath lab and an endoscopy unit. Once again the call of the classroom enticed her to leave her management position and assume the role of clinical nurse educator for the hospital.
This past May, the Bakers moved to Anderson, South Carolina. Before interviewing with NGTC, Ms. Baker considered numerous administrative jobs in the health industry. “Teaching is what I wanted to do,” she said. “I am so very blessed to be here.”
“Her previous teaching experience in subjects like pharmacology, medical surgical, and body systems such as immunology, pulmonary, hematology, and more – it all just fell right in line with the courses we needed to cover,” said Allied Health Department Chair Melinda Shiflet. “She brings a lot of new ideas to the table and she fits in well with the whole department.”
Lynn and Chris have three grown children living in Illinois and Ohio.
