BUFORD -- After a tough region loss to Greater Atlanta Christian on Tuesday, Buford softball bounced back Wednesday with an eight-inning, 6-5 win over Grayson.
The Lady Wolves (14-7) jumped out to an early four-run lead, shelling Grayson starter Breanna Etheridge with five hits.
Buford starter Bria Bush (3-2) pitched four innings, giving up one run and allowing 3 hits, while striking out 3. Bush was relieved by Buford sophomore Rachel Stopper.
Grayson put together a two-run fifth inning with three consecutive hits and a sac fly, making the score 4-3. Stopper was relieved by freshman Tessa Daniels with one out in the seventh inning, and one runner on base, but Grayson ripped off three singles to tie the game at 4-4.
After falling behind 5-4 in the eighth, Buford's Jazmin Hawkins -- who started the extra frame at second base due to the tie-breaker rule -- and Rebekah Rude each scored on a first-pitch blast from Jordan Deep to pull off the win. It was Deep's second big plate appearance of the week, as she also hit a 3-run homer off of Union County's Angie Hughes last Saturday in the Buford Invitational Tournament. Deep finished 2-for-4, with 2 RBIs, while Madyson Wynegar went 3-for-4. Lanier Paul also finished 2-for-4, as did Rude.
Daniels (8-2), finished with the win for Buford.
Buford will play host to Clarkston at 5 p.m. and Woodstock at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
