FLOWERY BRANCH – If balance was what Flowery Branch coach Lee Shaw was looking for in the Falcons’ season and Region 8-AAAA opener against Madison County Friday night, he found it.
The Falcons piled up 510 yards of total offense – 273 passing and 237 rushing – in putting a 56-7 thumping to the Red Raiders at Falcons Field. Kanler Coker had a huge game as the Falcons new signal caller passing for 204 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 56 more with one TD. Shaw said it was a solid first game for his Falcons. “Anytime you can put up yardage like that in the first game you have to be pleased,” Shaw said. “I thought we played very well most of the game.” Jeremy Haley continued where he left off last year rushing for 104 yards and two scores to lead the ground attack. Justin Curry also had a rushing touchdown for Flowery Branch (1-0, 1-0 in region). Casey Osborne had 91 yards receiving and one TD. C.J. Curry and Austin Jones each had TD receptions for the Falcons. Backup quarterback Jackson McDonald also looked solid going 7-of-8 for 69 yards and one touchdown. Flowery Branch will travel to Winder-Barrow next week for another Region 8-AAAA contest. © Copyright 2013 AccessNorthGa.com
