Democrats urge support for county employees at budget hearing
By Ken Stanford Staff
GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Democratic Committee is among the latest to weigh-in on the county's budget problems and tonight's budget hearing.
The group is urging attendance at the hearing and support for county workers, who face the possibility of more furloughs and, perhaps, layoffs, and suggests that those who support county employees wear white when they go to the meeting.
The county is facing an $11.5 million budget deficit and commission chairman Tom Oliver has said without a 1.41 mill tax rate hike, there will have to be drastic cutbacks in services and up to 100 layoffs.
Democrats, in urging support for county employees, calls them "heroes, who give unselfishly and deserve our common sense support."
The hearing begins at 6:00 at the Georgia Mountains Center.
