ATLANTA - Pilgrim's Pride, which has numerous plants in northeast Georgia, had some good news for the people of southeast Georgia.

That's because Governor Sonny Perdue's office announced on Thursday that the Pilgrim Pride plant in Douglas -- located in Coffee County -- will be re-opening this January, something for which the local community has long been lobbying.

Initially that will translate into 1,000 new jobs at the plant itself, and an additional 3,000 jobs in related businesses that will support the Douglas plant.

Perdue's office added, "This is one time we're happy that the chickens have come home to roost."
