WCSO Hold Active Shooter Training
By Dean Dyer /WRWH
(Cleveland)- Lots of White County Sheriff’s Department officers converged on the old abandoned Talon building in Cleveland Thursday afternoon. The reason, they were there according to Sheriff’s Captain Jim Couch was to do active shooter training.
White County Sheriff Neal Walden decided all certified officers needed this training to help them better protect the public as well as themselves.
Captain Couch said officers formed three person teams and went through the building looking for the make believe bad guys, played by other officers. The sheriff’s office has a designated Swat Team, but Couch says in many situations things happen fast and responding officers may not have time for the Swat Team to be assembled. Flushing out a shooter hidden in a building can be stressful thus the reason for the training.
Couch said Sheriff Walden is working with other departments like Cleveland Police and Georgia State Patrol to conduct joint training session with these officers.
