Boys basketball: Dawson County opens with 8-AA win

DAWSONVILLE – Jacob Evans had 23 points and 15 rebounds to pace Dawson County to a 64-56 win over Oglethorpe County Tuesday night in the season and region 8-AA openers for both teams.

The Tigers (1-0, 1-0 in region) trailed 14-10 early but used a 17-4 second quarter to take control of the game. Oglethorpe County (0-1, 0-1) cut the lead to 44-37 heading into the fourth quarter but the Tigers hit some key free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.

Stephen Scaife led Dawson County with 25 points.

D.D. Stewart paced Oglethorpe County with 16 points.

Dawson County next will play host to Cross Keys Friday night.
