Gainesville water, sewer rates going up

GAINESVILLE - The new year is likely to bring with it an increase in water and sewer rates for City of Gainesville customers.

Water rates are going up 5.5 percent and sewer rates, six percent... except for people in Oakwood where the increase is about two percent more than that, according to the structure outlined for the City Council Thursday by Tina Wetherford, Gainesville Public Utilities Division Manager for Finance and Administration. Oakwood is the exception, however, Wetherford said. The increase there will be 7.07 percent.

The City Council is expected to approve the increases next Tuesday.
