ATLANTA - Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders threw her support behind former rival Kasim Reed in the campaign for mayor.

Reed, a state senator, is facing off against City Councilwoman Mary Norwood in a Dec. 1 runoff after neither won more than 50 percent of the vote in last week's six-person race.

Borders was the third place finisher with 14 percent of the vote.

Norwood won 46 percent of the vote last Tuesday and Reed 36 percent.

Border on Wednesday praised Reed's proposal to fund more after school recreation centers, his focus on public safety and his willingness to work toward increasing revenue opportunities for Atlanta.
