Children could also participate in making a service flag, extinguishing an incendiary device. Cay Guidry, a volunteer at the History Center teaches forth grade at Myers Elementary, explained to children about civil defense and the aided them in extinguishing the fake “bombs”.
Home schooler, Joshua Griffith, from Dahlonega came with his dad to the event. After participating in activities Griffith Said, “ It was fun.” Griffith’s father David Griffith said, “Since he is home schooled this serves as a field trip and makes it fun for him to learn history.”
Co-chairman of the Veteran's Day Activities, Scott Ballard, was excited about the different groups in attendance. Ballard said, "Just the fact that all the groups are here together they just don't do it and the ones who are here today are all very, very supportive and happy to be apart of it. I think we are all hopeful honestly, the folks that are here today amongst these groups, that this is just he start of something maybe a Hall county veterans coalition."
Ballard hopes to see the event expand allowing these veterans groups to meet twice a year at the History Center on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day next year.
