Eagles beat Dawson, complete run to the playoffs

GAINESVILLE - Riverside Military Academy completed its flanking maneuver on a playoff spot in Region 8-AA Friday night with a convincing 27-0 thumping of Dawson County in its regular season finale.

The Eagles (5-5) won three of their final four games to win tiebreakers over Fannin County and Union County to grab the final playoff spot.

Riverside will open the playoff on the road at Region 5-A winner Callaway (8-2).

Quarterback Lucas Bersin accounted for more than 200 yards of offense for Riverside. Bersin was 9-of-15 passing for 120 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 100 yards and one score.


Richard Tribble and Cole Tudor each had touchdown receptions for the Eagles. Brian Cox had one touchdown rushing.

Aaron Gambrah led the defense, which recorded its first shutout of the season, with 10 tackles, including two for losses.
