Falcons face Redskins defense lacking in takeaways
By The Associated Press
ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins defense is having a solid season, tied for fourth in the NFL in yards allowed and a respectable fifth in points allowed.
But the unit can't express much pride because the team is 2-5, hurt by an offense that has yet score 17 points in a game.
The defense can do more, however. The Redskins are last in the league in takeaways with only seven, even though the team is doing a good job getting to the quarterback and is forcing plenty of fumbles.
Secondary coach Jerry Gray says the defense is "doing the blue collar work of causing fumbles - now we've got to do the blue collar work of picking them up. ... It hasn't bounced our way."
