Suspect in Hall Co. stabbing released
GAINESVILLE - A magistrate judge declined to issue a warrant following a stabbing Tuesday night in north Hall County that left a Flowery Branch man hospitalized.
Hall County Sheriff's Col. Jeff Strickland said deputies responded to the 5400 block of Cool Springs Road around 7 p.m. to find 37-year-old Delany Eugene Vandyke of Flowery Branch with serious stab wounds to the stomach area.
"Investigators took 32-year-old Jerry Grant into custody following the incident but later released him after the evidence and witness statements were reviewed by a magistrate judge who declined to issue a warrant at this time," he said.
Strickland said the preliminary investigation indicates that Grant appears to have acted in self defense.
He said Vandyke is listed in serious but stable condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Strickland said Grant and Vandyke were the only two people involved in the altercation. He said the incident is still under investigation.
