Project to widen Gwinnett County road begins
By The Associated Press
LOGANVILLE - The Georgia Department of Transportation has begun a $10.9 million project using federal stimulus funds that's designed to make travel a little easier on a stretch of road in Gwinnett County.
The DOT says it began work Monday to widen a 2.7-mile portion of State Route 20, known as the Loganville Highway. DOT officials say the project will widen the two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway.
It's expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
DOT project engineer Randall Davis says the first part of the project will not require lane closures.
