*The two incumbent city councilmen up for re-election in Dahlonega coasted to victory. Johnny Ariemma (airy-EMMA') bested John Webb by 94 votes and while Gerald Lord's margin of victory over Robert Bridges was 175 votes.
*Voters in Clarkesville, by a two-to-one margin, approved liquor-by-the-drink sales. And, they will be asked to return to the polls December 1 to vote in a city council runoff between Tommy Burgess and Becky Sandven. The winner will fill the vacancy left on the Clarkesville City Council when Bobby Webb resigned. Also in Habersham County, Ernie Garrett was elected to the Cornelia City Commission post now held by Brenda Garcia, who did not run for re-election.
*In the Winder city election, Bob Dixon defeated incumbent city councilman Mike Mingus and incumbent councilman Sonny Morris was returned to office.
*The winner of the mayor's race in Sugar Hill was Gary Pirkle... but the margin of victory was only 65 votes. Curtis Northrop's city council victory was even closer... with only 13 votes separating him and Shohn Tanner. And, in the other city council race in Sugar Hill, Mike Sullivan was the winner.
*Suwanee city council members Jace Brooks and Kevin McOmber were re-elected to another term today (Tuesday) and in a special election to fill an unexpired term, Dick Goodman was the winner.
*White County voters approved extension of a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Eduction. Also, in White County, Jack Champagne and Helen Wilkins were returned to the Helen City Council and Judy Holloway was elected to another council post.
*In Dawson County, extension of a sales tax for eduction was approved by voters while in the Dawsonville city elections... Calvin Byrd and James Grogan were elected and incumbent Linda Grant lost her bid to return to office.
*There will be a runoff early next month for the two newly-created seats on the Banks County Commission. Ernest Rogers and Fred Wendt will face-off in one race and Robin Trotter and Charles Turk in the other. The runoff will be held December 1.
*In Commerce, Darren Owenby defeated incumbent city councilman Donald Wilson and Keith Burchett was also elected to the city council.
*In Hoschton's only contested race, Emma Denney was elected mayor.
*Jefferson Mayor Jim Joiner was re-elected as was Jefferson councilman Randall "Bosie" Griffith.
