Brenda Bates greets a Trick-or-Treater at her restaurant
CLARKESVILLE - Rain and cloudy skies did not stop the Halloween on the Square fun in Clarkesville Saturday evening from 5 until 7:00 p.m.; little ghosts and goblins and their parents just broke out umbrellas.
Clarkesville merchants invite the trick-or-treaters to the Square every year; Lee Johnston brought her five-year-old grandson Jason.
"There's no other place that's truly safe for the kids in this area as rural as we are so this is a great place for them to come," she said.
Clarkesville auctioneer Wally Wenn has invited many little spooks to his store front door over the years and said it’s an enjoyable tradition.
"It's a fun way to spend an evening, handing out candy to kids," Wenn said.
Trick-or-Treat on the Square has been going strong in Clarkesville since 2001 according to Terry Rogers, chairman of Clarkesville Better Hometown.
"It's been growing ever since," Rogers said. "It's a great opportunity for the community to come together."
Rogers said Trick-Or-Treat downtown is a joint effort of his group, the Business and Community Association and the City of Clarkesville.
