Lula breaks ground on new waste water treatment plant

LULA - It was shovels to the ground Friday for a group of state and local leaders as they marked the beginning of construction on the City of Lula's Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Lula Mayor Milton Turner said there's been plenty of challenges getting the project off the ground, but he said the city council's hard work has made this new plant finally come to fruition.

"This means great economic development all up and down 365, something we've been working on for six years, and we're so proud to see this day finally get here," he said.

Turner said construction on the project will begin in approximately 15 days.

State Sen. Lee Hawkins and State Rep. Doug Collins were also on hand to commend Lula leaders for their diligence.

Hall County Commission Chairman Tom Oliver said the $10 million waste water plant, which is partially funded through stimulus money, is a sign of good things to come for the City of Lula.

"It's refreshing in this down economy to see us moving forward in such a great way," he said.

The new plant will serve customers in parts of north Hall County and Banks County along the Highway 365 corridor.
