Another delay for Jackson Co. road work

UNDATED - Construction on a Jackson County highway has been delayed for the third time this month.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials said Thursday that work on State Route 82/Athens Highway now won't begin until spring.

The DOT said the project's contractor, Pittman Construction, decided to delay the work, which will eventually close one lane of the road between the Barrow County line and State Route 11 in Jefferson.

The project will resurface the existing roadway and build up 2-foot wide shoulders from the Barrow County line to Georgia Highway 11 Business in Jefferson.

The estimated construction cost is $961,504.
