(Cleveland)- Heavy rain Friday night is believed to have contributed to an accident west of Cleveland at Sandpiper Drive involving a truck that veered off the roadway and overturned.  Ana Newberry, White County Fire Department spokeswoman said they received the call at 10:15 and responded along with mutual aid from the city of Cleveland.

Newberry said the driver was transported by White County Emergency Medical Services to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.  Firefighters on scene assisted the White County Sheriff’s Office with traffic control because the truck was on its side in the roadway.  The Georgia Department of Transportation was called to clean up the roadway and the Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident.

Firefighters remained on scene until 3:45 AM until Ramey’s wrecker service up righted the tractor trailer using air bags and the roadway was cleanup.

Newberry said the fire department responded to nine other emergency calls during the weekend.
