Athens ties record low for the date
By The Associated Press
UNDATED - Athens tied the record low for this date - and Gainesville came within two degrees of its record - as unseasonably cold weather kept a grip on north Georgia for the second morning in a row.
It was 33 in Athens... tying a record that had stood for 61 years. 35 was the low in Gainesville, two shy of the 33 which was set in 1948 - while in Braselton, it was 30. The low in Blairsville was 27; 29 in Cleveland; and 31 in Helen. Even in south Georgia, readings dipped into the 40s. Temperatures across the state were about 20 degrees below normal early Monday and Sunday... and that is likely again Tuesday morning.
Another freeze warning and frost advisory has been issued for early Tuesday. Temperatures were expected to rise into the 60s Monday afternoon and the 70s on Tuesday.
