Unidentified man beaten, left for dead in Jackson Co.

JACKSON COUNTY - Jackson County authorities are trying to figure out who beat a man and left him for dead in the southern end of the county.

Major David Cochran said deputies responded to a person down call on Scott Road around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

"There they discovered a black male victim who had been beaten severely about the head and the body and had been dumped in a yard," he said.

Cochran said the victim was transported to Athens Regional Hospital where he remains in critical condition. He said there are no suspects at this time, but he did say witnesses provided some helpful information.

"Witnesses had seen three black males leave the scene in a white Cadillac," said Cochran.

Cochran said they have not been able to identify the victim because he's remained unconscious since the time that he was discovered.
