Area fisherman top Jaycees Charity tournament, aid youth

GAINESVILLE -- Trent Westmoreland and George Forrester netted the top catch at the inaugural Gainesville Jaycees and InteractiveAngler.com Charity Fishing Tournament on Saturday in Gainesville.

Launching out of Laurel Park, Westmoreland and Forrester, members of The Smokin’ Fishermen Team, claimed a $5,000 prize for their total catch, weighing 17.11 pounds.

Second place and a $1,000 prize went to Tim Farley and Paul Driskell, who hauled in 16.25 pounds worth of fish.

Meanwhile, Joey Nichols and Donnie Jones bagged a total catch of 15.39 pounds, earning third place and $800. The duo also claimed the Big Fish prize of $530 for a single catch weighing 4.74 pounds.

Tommy Chumley and Mark Hardin also finished fourth (15.38 pounds) with $500, and Darryl Strayhorn and David Evans came in fifth (15.26 pounds) with $250.

The tournament netted $1,600 for the Jaycees' Gut Check program, which aids at-risk Hall County youth. Tournament weigh-in was also presented by Boating Atlanta of Buford.
