GAINESVILLE - Two Brenau University Mass Communication students Tuesday won the national advertising competition for developing anti-drinking and driving advertising campaigns after a presentation in White Plains, N.Y., to top executives of the U.S. branch of a top international beverage manufacturer.

Seniors Chenelle Morton of Lithonia and Colleen Sparrow, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, entered the Effie/Heineken USA Collegiate Challenge as part of the requirement for the advertising principles course.

The students were required to create a public service announcement, print advertisements and a social media presence for the campaign.

Judges said their campaign, titled “You're Not That STUPID,” "clearly demonstrated a strategic, creative and effective solution to Heineken USA's marketing challenge."

The Brenau students were among 10 teams selected from colleges and universities from around the United States for presentations in New York over the past two weeks. They returned Tuesday to pitch the top brass as one of the top three teams in the country.

Sparrow is also the captain of the Brenau Golden Tigers softball team and Morton is promotions director at WBCX-FM, the Brenau University-based radio station.
