Dahlonega featured in Where to Retire Magazine
HOUSTON - Where to Retire Magazine, the only magazine in America geared to helping people with retirement relocation decisions, has selected Dahlonega, GA, to profile as a top retirement town in the November/December issue.
According to Where to Retire editor, Mary Lu Abbott, Dahlonega has many of the qualities that are important to today's retirees.
"Whether hiking on the Appalachian Trail, tubing and fishing in the Chestatee River or attending a First Friday outdoor summer concert, residents of Dahlonega have ample opportunities to enjoy this northern Georgia town's four-season climate," said Abbott.
She further commented, "Housing options include the larger master-planned community Achasta, which sports a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course and three miles of hiking trails, smaller communities with condominiums like The Summit and acreage and lots on the outskirts of town. With area wineries, continuing-education courses, theater, music, arts and festivals, the community keeps retirees active."
Each year, 700,000 Americans move to new towns to retire. Generally healthier, better educated and more affluent than retirees who stay put, relocating retirees bring significant economic benefits to their new states and hometowns, according to the magazine. Nationally, two dozen states and hundreds of towns seek to attract retirees as a source of economic development.
Where to Retire magazine was launched in 1992 with the goal of helping its readers find the ideal place to retire. Now published six times a year, the magazine covers the best retirement regions, towns, and master-planned communities, and has a national circulation of 220,000.
