Clean sweep for NGTC students at GPPA convention

By Staff
CLARKESVILLE - A small contingent representing North Georgia Technical College’s photography department attended the recent Georgia Professional Photographers Association’s annual convention on Jekyll Island.

Jeff Gulle, NGTC Instructor, accompanied four students while an additional 15 students submitted work to be judged by peers across the state.

In the student category, NGTC had a clean sweep with students' first place winner Tim McMichen of Young Harris, second place winner Cindy Frezon of Cleveland, and third place winner Stevi Clack of Dacula.

“This year they did not judge student work independent of professional photographers work,” explained Gulle. “They mixed student work with professionals and all were then judged on the same level. Each print brought before the judges was assumed to be from a working professional. All of the NGTC prints, with the exception of one, received a merit which means that it was judged by our peers and deemed above average and exceeded the expectations of a professional photographer. t is very comforting to have a third party of such high distinction tell us that we are doing a good job.”

Taking advantage of a learning opportunity, Gulle also submitted six images, most of which were captured in class during live demonstrations. “I told the class I would show them the whole process and that they all have the capability to do it.”

“We are very proud of our photography program,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs Vicki Nichols. “If you are ever on campus, you will be able to see several examples on display of the extraordinary skills and talent that we have here.”
