DOT hearing Thursday on widening of U.S. 441
By Judd Hickinbotham
GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to make U.S. Highway 441 a four-lane road from Clayton all the way to North Carolina, while also adding bike lanes and sidewalks.
DOT has drawn up a plan to help alleviate traffic in northeast Georgia by four-laning that section of the heavily-travelled road in Rabun County, and now the public will have a chance to see that plan.
In addition to the added lanes, there will also be bike lanes, as well as sidewalks through Mountain City and Dillard.
The public meeting is set for Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Rabun Gap Nacoochee School. If you can't make the meeting but would still like to comment, you can do so by writing DOT.
