HOSCHTON - There were no injuries in a Hoschton house fire Tuesday afternoon but a family of four was left homeless by the blaze.

Capt. Tommy Rutledge of the Gwinnett County Fire Department said it happened at 4545 Quail Point Way about 1:15. Rutledge says he fire, which originated in the kitchen and extended into the second floor and attic, was brought under control in about 30 minutes.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke showing from the two-story wood frame house.

"The fire originated from a grease fire on the stove while the occupant was cooking," Rutledge said. "Flames engulfed the kitchen and spread to the second floor and attic before being brought under control. The rest of the house sustained mostly smoke and heat damage."

He said there was heavy damage to the kitchen and a portion of the attic and and the fire "sent thick smoke and heat throughout the rest of the structure."
One adult and three children were displaced by the damage and were being assisted by the Red Cross, according to Rutledge.
