GAINESVILLE - Juniors in the Gainesville and Hall County school systems who took the state graduation test this year beat the state average.

Hall County school officials released information yesterday showing that in each category tested - math, English, science, and social studies - Hall County students bettered the statewide scores.

The best showing was in math where 97 percent of the 11th-graders taking the test for the first time passed it. Statewide, 94 percent passed math.

Gainesville eleventh-graders had an 86 percent overall passing rate while 84 percent of Hall County students taking the test passed.
