Tennis: West Forsyth and Creekview teams each sweep into state

FLOWERY BRANCH -- The two newest members of Region 7-AAA sure seem to have the hang of this tennis thing.

Both the boys and girls teams from Creekview and West Forsyth clinched spots in the state tournament on Thursday in the Region 7-AAA tournament at Alberta Banks Park in Flowery Branch.

The Creekview girls swept West Hall 4-0 to reach Friday's semifinals, while the Grizzlies boys took out Johnson 3-0. Meanwhile, the West Forsyth girls -- defending 7-AAA champs -- blasted Lumpkin County, and the Wolverines boys also swept Lumpkin 3-0.

The four squads will each take part in the 7-AAA semifinals on Friday in Flowery Branch.

The Creekview girls will take on Flowery Branch at 10 a.m., while the West Forsyth girls face Johnson at 10 a.m.

On the boys side, Creekview matches-up with West Forsyth at 11:30 a.m. The Gainesville boys face West Hall in the other semifinal at 11:30 a.m.

The Lady Falcons and Lady Knights, along with the Red Elephants and Spartans also each qualified for the state tournament on Thursday, with only seeding to be determined on Friday.

The winners of tomorrow's girls semifinals will battle for the top seed from 7-AAA starting at 2 p.m., while the losers face off for third and fourth place.

The boys winners will also face off at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Alberta Banks Park -- as will the boys consolation participants.
