GAINESVILLE -- The Johnson boys soccer team fought past Chestatee 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday in the Northeast Georgia Mountains Cup at Chestatee.
The victory pushed the eighth-ranked Knights (10-3) into Friday's tournament championship game against cross-town rivals West Hall.
Alberto Olvera ensured Johnson would play for the title on a well-struck free kick that beat Chestatee's goalkeeper for the winning score with just three minutes left in overtime.
Ruben Castro also scored for the Knights.
Daniel Ruiz had put the homestanding War Eagles (6-8) ahead in the 26th minute, scoring off an assist from Alejandro Gonzalez. But Castro leveled the game before the half.
With neither team able to break through in the second half or first overtime period, the contest seemed destined for a penalty shootout, until Olvera's free kick sealed the outcome.
Johnson will look to a double over West Hall on Friday after already defeating the 10th-ranked Spartans 2-0 on March 19. The contest is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday at Chestatee.
The War Eagles, meanwhile, will face Riverside for third place at 6 p.m. Friday at Chestatee.
