GAINESVILLE - The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Soin Award for Innovation went to a developing automation company Friday morning at the Lanier Technical College Manufacturing Development Center in Gainesville.
Rajesh Soin, president and CEO of Ohio based Soin International, said the journey to his $10,000 award was the real award.
EZ-Way Systems was picked out of 13 developing firms for the award, and Charles Daugherty with EZ-Way agreed.
“I think he’s correct,” Daugherty said. “Money comes and goes but the relationships that you build through meetings like this and people getting to know you and know your company far benefit your progress in the future.”
Daugherty said his firm hopes to have his product ready to market by early fall; EZ- Way plans to manufacture automation to more efficiently select merchandise for companies like Amazon.
“It is industrial automation for broken case picking,” Daugherty said. “A lot of people log on an order products; employees pick those items who literally push shopping carts around a giant warehouse to get each individual item; this completely automates that task and allows use of employees in a better manner.”
EZ-Way Systems co-developer Brad Harris said the system was developed in the industry ‘incubator’ at Lanier Tech’s Manufacturing Development Center at the Featherbone Center.
The Soin Innovation Award is designed to identify and financially assist a local company demonstrating innovative spirit.
Guest speakers included Gus Whalen, Featherbone Communiversity founder, and Rajesh Soin.
