POWDER SPRINGS - Barack Obama is making his first public appearance in Georgia since clinching the Democratic nomination for president.

``It's good to be in Georgia,'' Obama said as he launched into a town hall meeting in Powder Springs Tuesday morning. Obama focused on the economy, discussing how many Americans are facing the middle class squeeze that is pushing many families deeper into debt.

Hundreds of people crowded into McEachern High School, some arriving before daylight to secure a seat.

The appearance comes a day after Obama headlined a pair of fundraisers in Atlanta where he helped fill his campaign warchest for the November general election battle against John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee.
