Manhunt ends after SWAT team is called in Gwinett Co.
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville Police searched for a man suspected of stealing a car for nearly three hours Wednesday afternoon.

Gwinnett Police Cpl. David Schiralli said Lawrenceville Police went to a residence on Russell Road to talk to Robert Michael Benton about a stolen vehicle, but Benton fled the residence in the suspected stolen car.

He said Benton then fled from officers again on foot at a traffic stop.

"We learned that he had a violent history," Schiralli said. "We then determined for officer safety reasons to activate our SWAT team."

Schiralli said canine officers located Benton around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Lawrenceville area.
