UNDATED - Gainesville came within two degrees of tying the record high for the date Sunday but there were several places in the state that did tie or break their records.

The reading at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport was 95; the record high for the date was 97 which was set in 1952.

Elsewhere in the Gainesville area, it appears the warmest readings were in Braselton where it was 100 and Oakwood, with a 98.

Meanwhile, Athens broke a 75-year-old record with a 101; it was 100 in Macon and 98 in Columbus, both record highs.

There is relief in the forecast, however. After another day of highs in the mid- to-upper 90s Monday, temperatures are expected to moderate, with daytime readings in the mid-80s Tuesday and Wednesday and an increasing chance of some rain.
