Dream's home opener already a sell-out, as Humphrey makes first trip home
By Staff reports
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Dream will be getting off to a successful start -- at least in the stands.
According to reports from the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Dream -- playing in its first season in the WNBA -- has sold out its first home game this Friday against the Detroit Shock.
Team president Bill Bolen says that all 10,039 tickets at Philips Arena have been sold. He also noted that less than 1,000 tickets remained for Sunday's game against Los Angeles.
"Over the past few weeks, tickets for opening weekend have been moving fast," Bolen said in a statement.
Friday's contest will mark the first time former Gainesville High and University of Georgia standout Tasha Humphrey plays in Atlanta after getting drafted 11th by Detroit in last month's WNBA draft.
The Dream considered drafting Humphrey with the eighth pick but opted for Tamera Young of James Madison.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on CSS-TV.
