Bridge jumper temporarily closes I-985

BUFORD – Both directions of I-985 were closed for a short time Thursday night due to a man threatening to throw himself from a bridge.

According to Gwinnett Police, a man was threatening to jump from the Thompson Mill Bridge onto I-985.

Gwinnett Public Information Officer David Schiralli said the highway was temporarily shut down for safety reasons.

Officers were able to talk the man down without further incident.

The highway was reopened after about 10 minutes.
