BEIJING, CHINA - Houston Rockets center Yao Ming has filed a lawsuit accusing Coca-Cola of using his image without permission. But he's only asking for a single yuan, which is about 12 cents -- less than the price of a single can.
Yao filed the lawsuit Friday against Coke's Chinese subsidiary over an image on commemorative bottles sold in his hometown of Shanghai. Erik Zhang -- his agent -- says the court will decide this week whether to accept the case.
Coca-Cola China spokeswoman Brenda Lee says the company hasn't received court papers, but it has asked to talk to Yao's representatives in hopes of settling the dispute.
Coke says it has the right to show groups of at least three members of the Chinese national team under a sponsorship agreement.
