Recent Articles by Stan HallAhh, the old school days that were filled with football games, fight songs, school dances, and an occasional kiss from your sweetheart. These were times of our first car, school pranks, and just hanging out with the guys. A couple of weeks ago, a well dressed young woman walked into a courtroom in Utah. She seemingly walked with an air of confidence, with her mother in tow, as they strolled into their assigned courtroom. I have been a long time critic of celebrities who take the opportunity to espouse their political views every time they get in front of the camera. I am still amazed as I hear updates on the Jaycee Lee Dugard child kidnapping incident. And, what is really odd is the fact that I should no longer be amazed at such stories. Rodney King will live in infamy based on actions that he probably never actually planned. In the wild, certain things are a given. Issues that deal with survival of the fittest, animal instincts, and natural food chains are much more than just sayings that we use or bullet points on someone’s PowerPoint presentation. The innocence of a child is indisputable. Not only is it in indisputable, it is deserved. “Deadly Force” is a term that makes for some great story lines in those best sellers that we all like to read. Somewhere along the way, life’s breaking system has failed us. Like an eighteen wheeler flying down the interstate, with no capability of applying the brakes and bumper to bumper traffic straight ahead, our lives seems to be heading toward a similar path. I remember, as a mere lad, when Pink Floyd came out with an album entitled “Another Brick in the Wall.” I am told fairly often these days that I am just getting old. I am told that some of my views, okay...a lot of my views, are out of date and not realistic. This week, on a warm spring day in the middle of the afternoon an elderly couple were working out in their front yard; nothing unusual about that. Nothing is more obvious at this time of the year. The summer break is fast approaching. The topic of bullying is very much in the news today. It is not a new topic. I hate it when I hear the dreaded screeching sound and then the alert appears on the bottom of the television screen. I have had the opportunity to see many things in my life from a professional perspective that were unpleasant to look at. This has been an interesting week when it comes to lights. And, the news concerning lights covers the spectrum of colors. Hate. Not the most popular of the four letter words, but it is surely making a leap toward the top of the list. Like so many others, I was amazed at the story this week where two teenagers had been arrested for taking a virtual arsenal to a local school. I am a big fan of all things historical; especially those things that deal with crime and punishment. Previous |1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | Next |
Stan Hall![]() Info Voice 4 Victims For the past several years, it has been my honor to be a part of one of the greatest movements that has ever occurred in the criminal justice and judicial system. That, of course, is the movement to ensure that each person who falls victim to crime receives those benefits and rights that they, by law, are entitled to. As the Director of the Victim Witness Program for the Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office, I have seen first hand how crime can completely destroy one's life, as well as, the entire families of those who have been victimized. While great strides have been made over the last few years to ensure that crime victims rights are being met, there is still much work to be done. The goal of this site is to simply be an avenue for victims and advocates of victims to gain the maximum amount of information about what to expect concerning those rights and how to ensure that they are received. Several links are available through this site which will provide even more information on a local, state, and federal level through other victim oriented organizations. Through our Behind The Badge cable access show, we have tried to be a bully pulpit for crime victims here in our county. Hopefully, these shows have been successful in our attempt to educate and acclimate our citizens about issues that are of a criminal justice and judicial nature. A list of previous shows is available on this site for anyone who would like to see former episodes. Thanks to all of you for the tremendous feedback that we have received from this program.
