The Trojans won their seventh straight Friday night whipping Forsyth Central 66-51 in the WCON Christmas Classic at Habersham Central High School. The Dawson County boys remained unbeaten after knocking off Hayesville (N.C.) 39-25 Friday in the semifinals of the Battle of the States Tournament at Towns County High School. The Gainesville boys basketball team may wish that every game was in a tournament this season. The South Carolina Stingrays used three first period goals and cruised to a 4-0 win over the Gwinnett Gladiators on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Chestatee hit 15 3-pointers and rallied from an eight-point third quarter deficit to beat Ridgeland 107-101 in overtime Friday in the Comcast Tournament at LaFayette High School. The North Hall girls will be glad to return home next week and get back into their Region 7-AAA schedule. Johns Creek jumped out to a 24-2 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and then cruised to a 63-39 win over Lumpkin County Friday in the second round of the Westminster Holiday Classic. The East Hall boys lost their second game of the Great Florida Shootout Friday morning, 83-64 to Chamberlain high out of Tampa Bay. Kaela Davis poured in 21 points to lead the Buford girls to a 62-48 win over St. Francis Friday at the Jump-off Classic at Holy Innocents’. Johnson was outscored 8-3 in overtime as the Knights dropped another tough game in the Big Red Shootout, 75-70, to Dunwoody Friday at the Gainesville gym. The Jackson County girls’ bid for an unexpected spot in the finals of the Big Red Shootout came to an end against Chattahoochee Friday at the Gainesville gym.
